A MIND THAT IS STRETCHED BY NEW EXPERIENCE CAN NEVER GO BACK TO ITS OLD DIMENSIONS. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Josephine Waruguru Kiguru
My name is Josephine Waruguru Kiguru, I am a Lawyer by profession working for Child Fund Kenya and based in Nanyuki, Kenya. Child Fund Kenya is a non profitable organization whose mandate is to improve the well-being of children and to enhance opportunities for the development of their potential. It values, protects and advance the worth and rights of children.  My work entails teaching parents and children on Human Rights and Parental Responsibilities and making follow up on any case of abuse or neglect. Teaching the communities and creating workshops on sensitization of Gender-Based Violence, Human Rights, Land issues, Alternative Dispute Resolutions and any other legal issues. I also visit and train Focus groups on VS&l (Voluntary Savings & Loaning), Women Empowerment activities which includes Income Generating Activities and doing follow ups on the same. I do research and make presentations on topics that help in Capacity Building.

Social Media is a good tool for my work because people will obtain information, education, news and other data from electronic media. One thing about social media is that it’s generally available to the public at little or no cost. Social Media is a form of marketing therefore; I will convince people of my intentions, knowledge, and expertise in a specific area of my work by providing valuable and accurate information on an ongoing basis. It will also help researchers and trainers in sensitization especially on matters to do with Children’s Rights and
Gender –Based Violence.

The General information about Sikika and Myself

The introduction about Sikika and Thomas

My name is Thomas Ludovick. I am a 26 year old Tanzanian. I was born in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region. I have successfully completed my Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Social Sciences in Journalism at Tumaini University, Iringa Campus. I am still young, enthusiastic, energetic, confident, challengeable, humble and I’m eager to learn.

Currently, I’m working at Sikika as assistant media specialist in the department of media and publishing. My responsibility at Sikika is to manage the platform such as twitter, face book, blog, website, newsletter, E-newsletter, editing press release and news articles.

Sikika is a non government organization in Tanzania which advocates for quality health services for all Tanzanians. Sikika works to ensure equitable and affordable quality health care services through health systems social accountability at all levels of government.

Social media takes a large space in my work place because Sikika also works with Parliament and key central Ministries to influence the national health plans and budgets. Sikika currently operates in Dar es Salaam and Kibaha – both based in the Coastal region of Tanzania. Also Sikika works with donors, NGo’s and CSO’s. At this point social media must be there as a link of communication to them.
